Students in Debbie Lee Piano Studio receive well-rounded music education. The curriculum includes general repertoire studies and analysis, performance artistry, technical proficiency, sight-reading skills, ear-training, music theory, music history, general musicianship, and much more.
Each student is uniquely different. Each student follows an individually designed curriculum to suit the needs to develop and improve their musicianship. The curriculum is based on Oregon Music Teachers Association Syllabus, California Music Teachers Association Certificate of Merit Syllabus, and Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus.
The following is an example of a weekly private lesson based on an hour session.
Sight reading, rhythms- 5-10 min.
Technical studies- 10-15 min.
New repertoire/preview- 10-15 min.
Working pieces- 15-20 min.
Polished piece- 10-15 min.
Review piece- 10 min.
Learning music theory and history provides students the tools to become fluent readers of music and understand the structure and form of the music they're performing. It also helps students to understand the styles of Western music and grow critical listening skills.
Based on the Taubman Technique, the students receive technical training that produces a beautiful tone and voicing, overcomes technical limitations, and prevents any injuries that may come from playing the piano.
Students are expected to attend lessons well-prepared and give their best effort to all instruction. Attitudes eager to learn are expected. Please be on time for your lesson, and tardiness to the lesson is a loss of instruction time.
